AVOID WATER DAMAGE WHILE ON SUMMER VACATION

Summer is a time for people to take a vacation. It’s a time to relax and not to worry anything. But before you leave, its best to protect your home so you can fully enjoy your vacation. What could be worse than coming home from a relaxing summer vacation only to find that your home has been flooded, or otherwise severely damaged by water? Water damage can occur to a home when a homeowner is out of town. Leaky pipes and appliances, dripping water heaters, AC leaks and frozen or bursting pipes are just a few common things that can cause water damage. Here are a few tips that will help to protect your home while on summer vacation.

  1. Turn off your Water

Turning off your water main when leaving your home for long periods of time will help avoid water pressure from building up in your pipes. This will avoid the chance of leak since leaks usually happen when there is a stoppage in the pipes.

  1. Check your Appliances

Appliances like dishwasher, refrigerators and washers/dryers has a tendency to leak. If you suspect any damaged supply or drain lines, you should replace them as soon as possible before leaving your home on vacation.

  1. Clean Your Rain Gutters

The easy way on preventing outside water from getting it to your home is to clean your gutters. Removing leaves and other debris will prevent potential blockages from building up.

  1. Have Someone Checking in On Your Home

Ask someone to check up on your home regularly so a leak is detected before it becomes more severe. This won’t prevent water damage, but it will make it possible to detect it early and stop the damage from becoming any worse. You will feel better knowing that someone is keeping an eye on things for you.

  1. Check your home for leaks

Check around your property. Pay special attention to pipes under sinks, your water heater. If you find rust, cracks, or other damage to pipes, fixtures or drains repair soon as possible. It’s important also to check the seals around your windows and the exterior of your home.

With these tips, you can truly enjoy your vacation. You can have peace of mind that your home is safe from water damage. If your home does suffer from water damage, please call us SERVPRO of Ventura at (805) 656-3911.
