HALLOWEEN FIRE SAFETY TIPS
Halloween can be full of fun and spooky tricks or treats. One of the sweetest holidays is one of the most popular activities for children of all ages. It is exciting to dress up in costumes from scary to funny and spend the evening trick-or-treating. While the costumes and candy can be a real treat, Halloween activities can also present lurking fire risks that have the potential to become truly scary. But by planning ahead, you can help make this Halloween a fire safe one. To make sure that everyone has a safe and fun Halloween, here are great safety tips for the entire family.
- Costumes
When choosing a costume, avoid fabric that billows or trails behind you, as these can easily ignite. If your child is wearing a mask, make sure he or she can see out of the eye holes.
- Decorations
Keep dried flowers, corn stalks and crepe paper decorations far away from open flames and heat sources, including light bulbs and heaters. Dried flowers, cornstalks, and crepe paper catch fire easily.
- Candles
If you use a real candle, use extreme caution. Place candles and lit pumpkins away from anything that can burn, out of the way.
- Jack-o'-lantern
Glow sticks or electric candles are the safest choice when it comes to lighting up your jack-o’-lantern. It is safer to use LED candles in pumpkins and other handheld accessories.
- Smoke Alarms
Take the time to ensure all your fire safety equipment is working properly. Testing a smoke alarm is a quick and simple process and doing it can save lives.
- Exits
Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks the escape routes.
