CAN SERVPRO of Ventura SAVE WALL INSULATION AFTER FLOOD?
The insulation in the house is not something every home owner’s think often. They do not think that it is part of home’s structure and this is necessary to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer. Just like any other space, insulation can need to be repaired or replaced after a disaster.
What happens when insulation gets wet?
Fiber glass and cellulose are most common types of insulation that are vulnerable to attic water damage in specific ways. When moisture fills the air pockets between the fibers, the insulation loses its ability to slow the transfer of heat. Cellulose insulation is the most susceptible to water damage and we cannot usually salvage it.
Spray foam insulation is another type of insulation but it’s not likely to get water damaged. However, plaster, wood and other building materials around it can still get damaged.
What are the risk of wet insulation?
- The presence of moisture creates a rich breeding ground of fungus.
- Soaked materials can lead to damage inside wall cavities.
- Wet insulation cannot do its job effectively
If your home suffers flood damage, water can seep into the walls and damage the insulation. Checking for water inside the walls is an essential part of SERVPRO of Ventura water remediation process. We have several tools available we can use to assess the insulating materials.
- Moisture meter to compute the amount of water present
- Thermo – hygrometers to measure humidity in the air
- Thermal imaging to trace the movement of moisture
We used air movers, fans, dehumidifiers and portable heaters to dry inside wall cavities.
