To come home and see your home in kind of disarray is disheartening, but seeing flames is unimaginable. Fire season is a well-known fact that preparedness is the key. There are many actions to take and ways to keep safe during fire season, one of the most effective ways to prevent fire damage is to create a defensible space around your home. This will help to minimize the fire damage to your home.

Creating defensible space around your home is a vital step in wildfire safety. Our world is made up of combustible items, wildfires can spread rapidly. Firefighters always do their best to reduce damage, but ultimately, it is your responsibility to protect your property form wildfire.

Here is helpful information on creating defensible space:

Ignition Zones

  • This is separated into 3 parts and encompass an area that is 100 feet around your home. The reason for this is that as fire heats up, it can ignite combustible material up to 100 feet away.

Fire Resistant Landscaping

  • It is best to clear all shrubs and greenery around your home go prevent fire. Having plants strategically placed around your home will provide a better deterrent. Wildfires builds during windy conditions and embers from the fire can travel along with the wind. Fire resistant landscaping can block the embers and prevent your home from catching fire.

Vertical and Horizontal Spacing
