PREPARING YOUR RESTAURANT FOR A HEALTH INSPECTION
2/28/2022 (Permalink)
Ensuring that your restaurant is clean and serves fresh safe food to customers is your greatest responsibility. A restaurant health inspection is one way for your restaurant to learn how to best uphold this responsibility. This inspection is meant to make sure that your establishment is a safe environment for customers and the staff.
Being prepared for a restaurant health inspection means understanding your city and state’s public health codes as you are preparing the restaurant to open for customers and at all times during operation. Here are few things that you can do to help yourself pass an inspection before an inspection occurs.
- Review your HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) Plan
Identifies the points in the cooking process where the risk of contamination is the greatest and can help you understand when to take action to prevent contamination
- Familiarize with Common Code Violations like;
- Personal hygiene
- Cross –contamination
- Internal temperature requirements
- Staff knowledge on and off the floor
If your entire staff understands the importance of food safety practices, the more likely they are self-regulate and help keep things ship-shape – and the more prepared they’ll be for an inspector’s questions/
- Make sure all staff members are trained and certified as appropriate and per local health department requirements
- Regularly ask employees job-related safety and sanitation questions.
