Gasoline is an important part of our day to day lives. We use it to fuel our cars and trucks as well as our lawnmowers. Weed trimmers, boats a variety of off – roads vehicles , portable electric generators and more. However, gasoline is highly flammable and can be extremely dangerous if not handled and stored safely. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind to ensure that you and your home stay safe when handling gasoline.
- Check local and state bulletins for gasoline storage regulations. Fire codes and laws typically restrict the amount of gasoline an individual owner can store in approved containers of less than five gallons each.
- Never stored gasoline in non – reusable plastic containers or glass container. Safely store gasoline in an approved container, such as a plastic gas can. A plastic gas can is sealed using safety mechanics to prevent leaks.
- Never use gas as a cleaning fluid or solvent or clean your hands.
- Don’t smoke or use matches, lighters or other ignition sources anywhere around gas.
- Use gasoline only in well ventilated areas.
- Never use water on a gasoline fire. The use of water will spread the fire
